On May 5, Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover, an actor and rapper, released his new song, "This Is America," which has climbed to the top of the US and Canadian Hot 100 charts. To date, the music video has been viewed nearly 194 million times on Youtube with a 94% positive rating by viewers. It has received quite a bit of praise from the liberal media as well, which is hardly surprising considering the rather overt political tones found therein. What is surprising, however, is that when asked whether or not he could explain the video, Glover said it is not his place to provide it context. This seems odd considering he clearly intended there to be a sociopolitical message, and there have been countless articles written and videos made by people attempting to suss out all of the hidden meaning.
